28 October 2016 Masala boss sentenced to home detention. NBR. RNZ story Rupinder Singh Chahil was sentenced today to six months' home detention and ordered to pay $2500 in reparation after admitting providing false and misleading information to an immigration officer.

17 February 2016 Judge orders compliance within 10 working days. About 200 boxes of documents must be handed over. Ruling comes after 6 months of non complaince. Further fixture on 7 March 2016 to monitor compliance. Contempt of Court.
6 February 2016: Assets frozen by High Court on 10 December 2015.
The court order was issued on 10 December but not made public till now. Assets frozen include 33 commercial and residential properties was valued at more than $6.9m and included money held in safe deposit boxes. Documents related to the court order name Joti Jain and two relations, Supinder Singh and Rupinder Chahil as the key people running the restaurants.

Liquor licence application pdf of application is by KD Empires Limited Trading as Mehfil Indian Restaurant. Sole director and shareholder is Karan Preet Singh. His brother, Karan Preet Singh, has been nominated as a certificated manager for this application. Both of these individuals are nephews of Joti Jain and have been involved in the Auckland-wide Masala group of companies.
KD Empires Ltd (5731887)was incorporated on 18 Jun 2015 and now lists Ujagar SINGH as sole director and shareholder. The change was on 1 October 2015, the meeting for the On licence was on 25 November 2015.

7 April 2015 Masala restaurants fined again for worker exploitation. CK Hospitality Ltd T/a Masala Indian Restaurant fined $25k for exploiting 2 Masala Papakura workers: former waiter-kitchen hand Manpreet Singh & chef Rajinder Kumar. CK Hospitality Ltd in liquidation.
31 March 2015 Masala restaurants fined for exploiting migrant workers. Masala Mission Bay and Masala Bucklands Beach restaurants, owned by Goldlink Enterprises and CHK Hospitality respectively fined $10k. They failed to pay former employee Gagandeep Singh minimum wages and holiday pay owed to him. $10k fine with $5000 going to Singh and $5000 to the Crown. CHK Hospitality had to pay Singh $2160.03 plus interest for unpaid wages and holiday pay for the two weeks he worked at Masala Bucklands Beach in 2012. Masala Mission Bay and Masala Bucklands Beach restaurants failed to pay minimum wages, final holiday pay and public holiday pay, totalling $32,264.35. r
31 March 2015 Underpaid restaurant worker won't get money owed to him. NZ Herald. Goldlink Enterprises Ltd, trading as Masala Mission Bay, went into liquidation on March 10 [2015], the day before an investigation meeting was to have taken place. CHK Hospitality Limited, trading as Masala Bucklands Beach, went into liquidation on September 2, 2013.
