10/10 for businesses that update their website and/or social media to let customers know if they are open or not. 0/10 for those that don't and don't have a published policy for whether they are open or not on public holidays.
This isn't a complete list. It is just places I happen to look up and noted when they are open (or closed). Fast food chains like McDonalds, KFC, Burger King etc are open. I also expect restaurants/cafes that are attached to hotels to be open.

- Dominion Rd: Zap2 Thai open for lunch+dinner. Shefco, Tasty Noodle, J's Tea, Santhiya's, both Barilla dumplings are open. La Voie has been between Christmas and NY. They were open today but not much left when we got there.

- Little Bird Organics Unbakery - Closed permanently from 24 December 2016. This is 1st cafe that opened in 2012.

- La Cigale - Market reopens 7 + 8 January, Cafe reopens 9 January 9am - 4pm.
- Brighton road cafe will close at 12 noon on Christmas Eve and re-open for business at 7.30am on Monday 16th January 2017. Facebook page.
